Heritage Preservation Commission recommends adding 101 and 103 North LaRue to Flagstaff register

Chair Emily Dale said the Heritage Preservation Commission recommended that Flagstaff City Council consider listing 101 and 103 North LaRue on the city register of historic places after a subcommittee review.
Staff member Sarah summarized the subcommittee’s December 2 review, noting an updated listing form, a supplemental photo log and a primary-source newspaper article about the Kehlani Apartments’ opening that Commissioner Westheimer provided. Sarah said this action is a recommendation to council and not a final designation: “Council then will take this up on January 7th,” she said.
Commissioner Duffy Westheimer moved to add the 1926 newspaper article to the nomination materials and to recommend the two properties to City Council; Commissioner Alicia Hayes seconded. The motion carried with recorded Ayes and no recorded opposition.
The commission clarified that the subcommittee minutes are maintained for staff reference and do not require the same approval process as commission minutes. Staff said the item will be forwarded to the Jan. 7 council meeting with the supplemental documentation included.
Next steps: City Council will review the nomination on Jan. 7; the commission may provide additional materials to staff prior to that date if members identify further archival sources or corrections.
