The City Planning Commission convened a special meeting Dec. 19, 2024, in Van Nuys and was told by Department of City Planning staff that two major items — the Television City Project and the Hollywood Community Plan — are expected to go to the Los Angeles City Council for final action on Jan. 7, 2025.
"We do expect we have a very big day, right after the holidays on January 7th," Lisa Weber, deputy director with the Department of City Planning, said. "Both the Television City Project will be going to the city council for final action, as well as the Hollywood Community Plan." Weber also thanked commissioners for their service over the past year and said many recent projects are expected to produce more housing and affordable housing.
The commission handled routine business before discussing schedule items and planned absences for upcoming meetings and briefings. President Monique Lachey asked commissioners to review advance calendars and notify staff of any planned absences or preferences for pre-CPC briefing participation.
On a procedural matter, Commissioner Elizabeth Zamora moved to adopt the minutes of the commission's Jan. 25, 2024 meeting. A commissioner seconded the motion. Planning staff conducted a roll-call vote; Commissioners Zamora, Saetman, Cabildo, Diaz, Mack, Vice President Michael Newhouse and President Monique Lachey each voted "yes," and Cecilia Lamas announced the motion carried unanimously.
Deputy City Attorney Kimberly Huangfu said she had nothing to report. Commission staff gave detailed instructions for remote public comment, including the Zoom meeting ID (883-887-2548) and passcode (001508), telephone dial‑in numbers, and how to submit written materials to cpc@lacity.org. Commissioner Maria Cabildo read the commission's racial equity statement, emphasizing equitable planning that centers those most harmed by systemic racism.
The meeting closed after the roll-call vote; the commission did not take other formal actions during this session. The department said the two items headed to City Council on Jan. 7 are the next significant milestones for cases discussed during the year.
