Administration plans March convening, committee asks to integrate employment into coordinated entry

The administration told the Assembly Housing and Homeless Committee Dec. 18 it plans a two-day community convening in March and is developing a toolkit to help community councils and service providers discuss local homelessness solutions.
"One of the overarching goals of our community convening is to really talk about what is the plan," Farina Brown, special assistant for homelessness and health, said, describing a tentative convening on March 22 that will follow the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness coordinated-entry conference.
Assembly member Karen Branga pressed the administration to include employment placement in coordinated entry. "When you said coordinated entry, my antenna went up. I'm still waiting to hear how we could place employment as part of the coordinated entry," Branga said, noting models in other jurisdictions that ask applicants about job history and skills as part of intake.
Brown and Thea, a special assistant for homelessness and health, said they and the COC data team will bring employment-data options to Continuum of Care partners to explore incorporation into coordinated entry. Thea also updated members on grant timelines: an open request for grant proposals for housing-related supportive services (RFGP 2024 GP005) is on the purchasing site and closes Jan. 7; the administration is pursuing CDBG disaster-relief funds (about $5,730,000 reported as allocated for Anchorage by state sources) for housing and capital projects.
Committee members emphasized the need for broad participation from providers and community groups and asked that the convening give voice to diverse partner roles rather than centering a single organization. The administration said the convening will be a collaboration with the Anchorage Coalition to End Homelessness and other partners.
