Board reviews Rose Hill property sale, Forest Road land swap and library board appointments

At its Jan. 13 work session the Muscogee County School District’s property committee described multiple transactional items the board will consider at an upcoming meeting.
Item 8.01 proposes the sale of approximately 1.9 acres at 433 21st Street (the former Rose Hill School), including structure and improvements, to Olympia Development LLC for residential development. The purchaser is to pay all closing costs; the committee reported a commission of $7,000 (7% of the sale) payable to the district’s listed realtor, leaving an estimated net to the district of $93,000 based on the cited $100,000 sale figure. Board members asked whether closing costs or buyer contributions could be adjusted to increase net proceeds and requested supporting documents and the final purchase agreement prior to a vote.
Item 8.02 described a proposed land swap with Weiser Home Builders LLC. The district would convey roughly 0.56 acres appropriate for a retention pond and receive approximately 0.79 acres suited for playground or student use at Forest Road Elementary. Committee staff characterized the swap as an exchange that better aligns the parcel uses to each party’s needs.
Under item 8.03 the board received recommended appointments to the Muscogee County Library Board: Shannon Reynolds, Sharon Childs Jamieson and David Efox. Committee staff said the library board has approved the slate and that the district’s appointment would complete the library board approval process under a 2010 memorandum of understanding between the school district and the library board.
No final approval was recorded at the Jan. 13 session; staff said supporting documents and contracts will be provided to the board in time for action at the next meeting.
