NUECES COUNTY — Commissioners asked county staff to place a discussion about sheriff and constable fee schedules on the Sept. 20 agenda after Constable Clark proposed raising some charges to better cover operational costs.
The sheriff’s office, represented in the meeting, urged caution: comparable counties’ fee levels appeared similar to Nueces County and the office did not recommend immediate increases without a fuller review. Commissioners asked staff to collect data, quantify potential revenue and report back.
“The constable says some of the fees we’re charging don’t even cover the gas to go do it,” one commissioner said. The court agreed it was worth further discussion and instructed staff to invite constables and the district clerk to the Sept. 20 meeting.
Any fee changes would affect general‑fund revenue modestly and would require additional analysis before being incorporated into the budget.
