Historic Preservation Commission elects officers, previews awards and annual report

At its Dec. 12 meeting the Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission elected Andrew Lewis chair and Jordan Celgren vice chair, reviewed 2024 preservation award nominees, and outlined timing for the annual report and 2026 U.S. 250th anniversary involvement.
The Iowa City Historic Preservation Commission filled leadership roles and reviewed upcoming calendar items at its Dec. 12 meeting.
Frank Wagner nominated Jordan Celgren for vice chair and Andrew Lewis for chair; the nominations were seconded and approved by voice vote. Commissioners discussed logistics for the January and February meeting calendars: staff said the commission will review the annual report at the February meeting and then forward it to the state at the end of February, and staff previewed a brief slide presentation of the preservation awardees (the commission will not vote on awards at this meeting).
Staff also reminded commissioners about outreach and potential involvement with the United States' 250th anniversary events in 2026 and asked commissioners to consider how commission activities and awards could align with broader community celebrations. Staff noted the awards event is planned for the final Thursday in February and that the commission will use a Google Drive to collect photos and materials for the presentation.
Bowman moved to approve the Nov. 14, 2024 meeting minutes; Lewis seconded and the motion passed. Lewis then moved to adjourn; Wagner seconded and the meeting ended with thanks to attendees.
