BESE provided an update on its Bridging Success Tour at the Dec. 11 meeting, reporting on an initial Baton Rouge event and confirming three upcoming stops aimed at connecting schools with business and industry.
Presenter Mr. Walker, who said he was appointed in late July and has led the initiative, described the first stop in Baton Rouge and a site visit to the East Baton Rouge CTEC Center. He confirmed three planned dates and partners: Jan. 29 in New Orleans in partnership with GNO, Inc.; Feb. 19 on the North Shore in coordination with Saint Tammany Parish School System and local economic development; and March 26 in Lafayette in conjunction with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and regional economic development partners.
Walker said the tour is designed to be driven by local business and industry and that additional dates for Southwest, Central, Northeast and Northwest Louisiana are being scheduled. He named Kevin Colbert as the staff lead who developed the program and said BESE seeks edits and local input to shape each stop. "We just don't wanna show up in the area. We want our vision... to be driven by what's going on in the area," Walker said.
Board members praised the format and encouraged broadening public involvement in year two.
The update was given under agenda item 7.2 and included logistical details and the rationale for partnering with regional economic development organizations.
