The State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s Innovation and Turnaround Committee approved a package of contract extensions and renewals for multiple BESE-authorized charter schools, voting to adopt items a–n as presented.
Board staff recommended approving the renewals in a single “in global” motion and noted that two renewals — Lincoln Prep and New Vision — carry conditions and were excluded from the global motion. A board member moved to approve the package in global; it was seconded and approved without objection.
Department staff framed the action as part of the board’s priority to expand educational choice. The department said it prepared school-by-school materials but recommended approving the bundle to expedite routine renewals. One public commenter who had planned to speak, Caroline Romer of the Louisiana Association of Public Charter Schools, waived her opportunity during this item.
The committee did not record a roll-call vote; the chair declared the motion approved after members voiced no objection. The approvals will be reflected in the board’s minutes and the department’s forthcoming published list of extended and renewed charters.
The committee scheduled no additional hearings for the approved renewals at this meeting; Lincoln Prep and New Vision retain required conditions attached to their renewals.
