Agawam School Committee unanimously approves program of studies, revised handbooks and graduation at Springfield Symphony Hall

The Agawam School Committee voted unanimously to approve the district’s 2025–26 program of studies, revised 2024–25 student handbooks and to hold Agawam High School’s graduation at Springfield Symphony Hall on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
Superintendent Martin presented the recommendation to reserve Symphony Hall after noting that construction of the new high school will prevent use of the campus stadium for ceremonies. Martin said parents were split on venue preference while “68% of students surveyed picked Symphony Hall over School Street Park.” Principal Blaine joined Martin in recommending the indoor venue to avoid weather risk and logistical complications of an outdoor site.
Committee members repeatedly praised the outreach to families: "I just wanna say thank you to Principal Blaine and Superintendent Martin," said Mister Christopher, noting community consultation. The committee confirmed the ceremony time at 2 p.m.; the chair said most attendees will likely use the MGM garage and that other paid parking is available under Route 91.
The committee also approved two other items by unanimous roll call votes earlier in the meeting. On a motion moved by Mister Christopher and seconded by Missus Rua, the committee approved SCR 24-14, the 2025–26 program of studies. Mister Perry moved, and Mister Christopher seconded, the approval of SCR 24-15, the revised handbooks.
Routine business approved during the session included the minutes of the Nov. 26, 2024 regular meeting (moved by Missus Rua, seconded by Miss McDougall) and four warrants read by the chair: SW25-54 ($55,748.91), SW25-55 ($49,401.25), SW25-56 ($352,153.84) and SW25-57 ($148,942.37). Missus Reid moved approval of the warrants; Missus Dimadio seconded and the roll call was unanimous.
The committee wrapped up with holiday remarks and a motion to adjourn, which carried 7–0. The next meeting will include two memorial scholarship items listed for future approval.
