Representative Byron (member from Vergennes) presented the Committee on Government Operations and Military Affairs' recommendation that Senate Bill 141, an act approving the charter for Fairfax Fire District No. 1, ought to pass in concurrence.
Byron said the district was initially created by petition through the town's select board and that records were destroyed by flooding. The charter in S141 would reestablish the fire district and record its corporate limits in town: north of Bassett Road, west of Highland Road, south of Brick Church Road, and east of Vermont Route 104. Byron noted that voters approved formation of the district in 1997 and that the committee heard testimony from legislative counsel, the clerk, and the prudential committee chair of Fairfax Fire District No. 1.
The presiding officer asked if the House was ready to have the bill read a third time; members responded 'aye' and third reading was ordered. The floor record does not include a roll‑call vote for the ordering of third reading on S141.
Next steps: S141 was ordered for third reading and will return for that stage of consideration.
