The Board of Commissioners recognized three distinct items of community interest at the Dec. 16 work session.
Commissioner (Speaker 7) announced the town received a $1,200,000 grant check from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to support development of the Sunset Road property into a park. Commissioners reacted positively; staff will incorporate the grant into project planning and the capital budget process.
Separately, an on-duty chief (Speaker 3) announced submission of a retirement packet to the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System with a last day of Jan. 31 after the strategic board meeting; the chief said they plan to volunteer thereafter if invited. Commissioners thanked the chief for service and noted the announcement will factor into personnel planning.
Finally, staff presented a resolution to use a donation from Mill Creek Brewery of just under $10,000 to purchase recreational items for Gregory Park. Staff outlined table and "checkerboard" game-table options, including an ADA-accessible 8-foot picnic table option; commissioners asked staff to return with a firm proposal showing table models, accessibility and final pricing before acting.
All three items were announcements or direction requests; no binding votes were taken on implementation at the Dec. 16 work session.
