Parks special-events staff member Wade told the Parks Board on Dec. 16 that he has accepted a job on Music Row and will be leaving his position.
"I'll be going working on Music Row. Opportunity presents itself that was best for my family at this time," Wade said, adding that he was grateful for the board's support and that he will remain involved in community events.
Board members and staff offered thanks and tributes. Mister Kelly and others praised Wade's creativity and leadership, noting he raised the level of events and grew programs. "You've set the bar really, really high for events that we create as a department," Mister Gilley said. Several board members called his work transformational and said the department has big shoes to fill.
Staff also noted operational impacts: Wade's departure will require contracting some services previously provided in-house and may increase the event budget. The department said it will advertise or recruit to fill the role and continue current event planning while coordinating the transition.
Next steps: Staff will determine recruitment or contracting needs to cover Wade's responsibilities and will brief the board on transition plans.
