Park Board considers rental and reservation rules for new disc golf course

At the July 15 Park Board meeting members weighed whether to allow organized rentals or reservations of the city’s new disc golf course and how to manage closures for tournaments.
The chair described existing field rental applications and said the department could modify them to include the disc golf course. Board members and Park Director Mr. Fowler discussed practical issues: closing the course for a tournament would exclude casual players for the day, signage or a kiosk would help communicate closures, and a day rental fee of roughly $100–$200 (one board member suggested $150) was floated as a reasonable starting point.
Mr. Fowler said he had contacts at nearby cities and could reach out for details on policies and fees; the chair and other members agreed the department should research neighboring cities (Washington, Union, Eureka) and bring sample policies. The chair emphasized that any reservation or rental policy would need a departmental recommendation and likely must be forwarded to the Board of Aldermen and the city attorney for drafting as a resolution or ordinance before enforcement.
The board also discussed how existing budgeted funds (an $8,000 line noted for disc golf trash cans and pads) could be used for immediate needs such as trash receptacles while a rental policy is developed.
No ordinance or fee schedule was adopted at the meeting; staff were directed to research examples and prepare recommendations for the next meeting.
