Board pushes to finish plaque research for Route 66 and asks community for volunteers

The presenter asked that research be completed "by the end of October" so materials could be proofed and priced by Dec. 15 and plaques ordered at the start of the next year. The presenter said some volunteers can work off-site and that Sue Reed has agreed to look over material when available but currently is not able to provide help immediately; Janet Daniel was also cited as unavailable due to other commitments.
The board discussed using the research for QR-code-enabled content on the museum website and for a walkable Route 66 trail anticipated next fiscal year. Members also discussed rotating exhibits (Bigfoot 50th anniversary display in 2026, Route 66 the following year), outreach to a quilt guild for a potential display, and the storage locations of historic neon signage — including inquiries about whether the Gardenway sign letters are in the lagoon or the genealogy building. Steve Myers was identified as someone who knows the signage storage locations and agreed to follow up.
The board encouraged volunteers and said staff will provide a computer and guidance for people who want to help with research.
