Board approves $87,120 change order for Lift Station 2 improvement to ease sewer bottleneck

The Pacific Board of Aldermen voted Sept. 3 to approve a change order for Lift Station 2 improvements, adding $87,120 to the existing contract with KJU to address an identified bottleneck in the sewer system.
Public works commissioner Bergerman explained the work will enlarge the incoming manhole and improve flows into the station after flash flooding exposed a capacity constraint. Staff described the lift station project as a multi‑phase effort: phase one (headworks and lift station) is roughly $4.2 million to date; grant and settlement funds from Brush Creek of about $2.8 million have been received and are expected to cover a portion of the program; a follow‑on interceptor line remains a separate, substantial project with easement work ongoing.
Finance staff confirmed the lift station change order will be paid from the sewer fund and that a subsequent budget amendment will be processed to reflect the additional work. Bergerman said the modification should help during heavy rain events and reduce the risk of backups caused by funneling flow into one constrained point.
A motion to approve the change order was made by Alderman Madrigal and seconded by Alderman Kelly; the motion carried on a unanimous voice vote.
The board recorded that remaining civil work and the interceptor line will be advanced in a later phase and that easement acquisition for the interceptor is in progress.
