Board moves to draft camping and event rules for Liberty Field after Disc Dogs concerns

Members said recent events (Disc Dogs, rodeo and occasional scout activities) have exposed gaps in the park’s rules: there are no electrical, water or sewer hookups; parking and generator use have created conflicts with active sports events; and sanitation responsibilities rest with the campers. A board member said the city currently has noise ordinances but needs explicit guidance for camping and overnight vehicle use in park venues.
"It's just having a set of rules... and then if somebody needs to make changes or ask for some kind of exemption, so be it," an Alderman Liaison said, describing a preference for a standard policy with the ability to grant exceptions. Board members discussed limiting the number of permitted campers, requiring permits, prohibiting bonfires and ensuring campers carry their grey/black water away from the park.
Next steps: The park board will draft proposed rules on camping and event uses (including permit requirements, capacity limits and noise/quiet‑hours provisions) and forward the proposal to the city attorney for an ordinance if needed.
