Members discussed accounting clarity: staff proposed creating distinct line items for vehicle-installed equipment, radar installations (vehicle-mounted radars) and other equipment such as video and camera systems so future budgets reflect actual spending. Alderman Stewart said that changing line-item structure should be considered in next year’s budget but that the board could approve clarifications now to reflect recent purchases.
The committee also discussed a grant for vehicle-mounted radars (approximately $9,000) that would reimburse purchases after installation. Staff said the grant would cover three units; the committee summarized that additional radar purchases may be funded by amended equipment lines and that staff would reconcile which bills and purchases hit prior-year vs. current-year accounts.
Next steps: finance staff and department liaisons will reconcile purchases and propose clearer line-item coding to present to the full board with any needed budget amendments.
