Board approves several public-works payments, tables one purchase order

The Board of Aldermen on Nov. 15 approved a set of public-works items and delayed others pending the Nov. 19 budget review. The board voted to approve a $19,030 change order for Spencer Contracting for the 2024 asphalt overlay and sidewalk improvements and approved pay applications for ongoing projects.
Specifically, the board approved pay application #10 from KJU for the Pacific Lift Station project in the amount of $80,302.85 and payout #3 from KJ Understahl for the Highway N project in the amount of $401,046.94. Public-works staff said final paving on the Highway N project is anticipated on Tuesday, after weather-related delays, and that the road will remain single-lane while ancillary work (dirt, sidewalks, yard restoration) continues.
The board also considered a purchase order from Kirby Smith Machinery for an air burner totaling $64,500. After questions about quarterly budget status, a board member moved to table that purchase order until the Nov. 19 meeting and the motion carried. The board agreed to prioritize items that were time-sensitive (the asphalt overlay and highway payouts) and to defer lower-priority expenditures to the next meeting for additional budget review.
Separately, public works reported final bulk-trash pickup removed 41.54 tons at a total cost of $12,887.60. Staff also said they would add Ben Ridge Estates / Winter Meet Trail to the city's speed-limit schedule as 25 mph and asked the city attorney to draft the necessary ordinance language so signage and enforcement can proceed.
Next steps: staff will proceed with contractor payments and schedule remaining purchase approvals for Nov. 19, and will notify contractors of paving schedules.
