Pacific approves two police union contracts covering sergeants, corporals and patrol staff

The Pacific Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Nov. 19 to approve two collective-bargaining agreements with Laborers International Union of North America, Local 42, covering sworn police classifications.
Bill 5256, covering police sergeants for a two-year period from 2024 through 2026, was approved on a 6–0 roll-call vote and will become Ordinance 3431. City staff and aldermen described the contract as providing 3% increases in each year of the agreement; City Attorney Jones said the contract includes position-specific salary figures for those employed when the tentative agreement was reached and that the scheduled increases are not additive to a separately budgeted 2.5% amount — they will be implemented consistent with the contract’s listed figures.
Bill 5257, covering police corporals, detectives and patrol officers for the same two-year term, also passed 6–0 and will become Ordinance 3432. Council members asked whether employees would vote on ratification; Jones confirmed the union members will ratify the tentative agreements and sign before the mayor executes the contracts on the city’s behalf.
Aldermen framed the votes as routine ratifications of negotiated agreements. Alderman (name recorded in roll call) noted the contracts had been reviewed by staff and included the compensation language necessary for budgeting. Mayor Feli confirmed the ordinances will be numbered 3431 and 3432 following approval.
What happens next: The unions will ratify and sign the agreements internally; the city will then proceed with formal execution by the mayor and administrative implementation of the wage changes in payroll.
