Assembly committee releases PA licensure compact bill to ease multistate practice

The committee released Assembly Bill 4328, which would enter New Jersey into the interstate physician assistant (PA) licensure compact to streamline multistate licensure for physician assistants.
Lynn Nowak (Porsio Governmental Affairs) and Beth Ann Mercante of the New Jersey State Society/Association of Physician Assistants explained that the PA compact is intended to improve workforce mobility, support access to care in underserved areas and allow PAs to practice across state lines more efficiently. Mercante emphasized that "the PAs who will be obtaining interstate compact licenses will still be beholden to the state's regulatory requirements," answering a committee question about protections for New Jersey standards.
Members moved to amend and release A4328, and roll call votes recorded yes from the members present. The bill was released as amended and will proceed in the legislative process.
