Committee releases bill to streamline family care provider approvals

The Assembly Regulated Professions Committee voted to release Assembly bill A2804 (first reprint), which directs the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services and the State Board of Medical Examiners to develop and implement a process within 365 days to improve the efficiency of reviewing New Jersey family care provider applications.
The bill requires the medical board to share information about physician-licensure applicants with the Division of Medical Assistance and Health Services to help identify physicians interested in enrolling as family care providers. Stakeholder witness slips filed in support included health systems and provider associations; Althea Ford of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association told the committee the measure could help identify efficiencies, reduce red tape and make enrollment work for both the division and residents who use family care services.
The committee moved and released the bill in a recorded roll call.
Next steps: the bill will proceed to the full Assembly for further consideration.
