Wallsburg’s work meeting on Oct. 24 included detailed department reports on roads, grant applications and recent park upgrades.
Scott reported ongoing conversations with contractors including Geneva Rock about road work. Council members said the town has roughly $66,000–$84,000 available for roads in the coming year, but noted a larger Main Canyon Road project will increase their share of costs. They discussed prioritizing troubled segments (including the road to the cemetery) and using grant programs such as CDBG, TAP matching funds and CMPG to cover larger repairs.
Members described a recent grant‑funded park and trail project: trees were planted, a gravel trail and bleacher area were resurfaced, and benches were ordered and will be bolted down. Council praised contractors and volunteers and discussed irrigation fixes to avoid washouts and preserve trail surfacing.
On impact fees, council members asked how much of county-collected impact fees return to the town and whether Wallsburg can claim a portion to repair town roads damaged by heavy construction traffic. Spencer and others offered to provide training on impact-fee rules and deadlines: impact fees are time-limited for use (six‑year window was noted) and require careful accounting to meet statutory conditions.
No formal votes were taken. Council expects road bids and a more detailed funding plan at upcoming meetings and will pursue grant reapplications where appropriate.
