California electors cast 54 votes for Harris and for Walz in state’s Electoral College meeting

"I will now announce the tally of vote for the office of president of the United States," she said, reporting "for Kamala Harris, a Democrat, yes 54, no 0." She then announced the vice presidential tally: "for Tim Walz of Minnesota, a Democrat, yes 54, no 0." The secretary also instructed electors on signing six certificates that must be sent to Washington the same day for official filing.
The meeting included routine procedural steps that certified California’s slate of presidential electors. The clerk read the roll of electors and alternates, and the secretary administered the oath that electors repeated aloud. Secretary Weber noted California’s turnout and registration figures during remarks, saying the state has about 22,500,000 registered voters and that turnout exceeded 71 percent this cycle.
Two vacancies were addressed under state law. Noting two congressional-district vacancies (CD-24 and CD-42), Secretary Weber cited Election Code section 6916 and appointed Mary Jane Bauer to represent CD-24 and Philip Norton to represent CD-42 as alternates. The secretary asked the appointed alternates to come forward to take their places.
The secretary named a panel of tellers to collect and review ballots and certificates. Elector Franklin Lima was recognized for overseeing the sealing and preparation of the envelopes containing the certificates, cover letters and other filing documents. The tellers collected ballots and later brought certificates to each elector’s desk to obtain required signatures.
Following the announcement of the tallies, Secretary Weber said California had completed its business. A motion to adjourn was made and seconded (the mover and seconder were not identified on the record); the body responded "aye," and the secretary declared the meeting adjourned.
