Commission approves Upland Design Group contract to oversee courthouse foundation work; funding from grant

The Meigs County Board of Commissioners approved a contract with Upland Design Group to oversee foundation work on the county courthouse and confirmed that the contract will be paid from an identified grant.

During discussion commissioners sought clarity on the contract cost and funding source. One commissioner asked, “What was the dollars and where it was supposed to come from? Will it gonna come out of the grant?” The chair and staff confirmed the work “will come out of the grant,” and said the county would not approve work that exceeded the budgeted amount without returning to the board for direction. The county attorney reviewed the contract and described it as a fixed price (no open-ended change in price).

Commissioners emphasized controlling scope to ensure the grant covers the core foundation work and suggested that less-critical cosmetic items could be deferred if necessary. A motion and second to approve the Upland Design Group contract carried on a roll-call vote; the record shows the majority voted 'Yes' with a single 'No' recorded.

The approval authorizes Upland Design Group to proceed with oversight of foundation work; the board directed staff to monitor budget and scope and return if additional approvals are required.
