Board approves $76,448 purchase of 64 Dell computers for CTE and lab classrooms

At its Sept. 9 meeting, the Redford Union Schools Board of Education approved the purchase of 64 Dell desktop computers for Career and Technical Education (CTE) and secondary campus computer labs at a total cost of $76,448.
Kim Crenshaw, executive director of curriculum and technology, said the district’s current CTE machines are about seven to eight years old and run slowly for design and technical classes. The replacement set is intended for Justin Rosen’s classroom and the district’s dedicated CTE space in the auto-shop area, with updated monitors and faster memory to support current software needs.
The funding source for the purchase was described as a combination of 2021 capital bond project funds and enhancement millage dollars. Board members asked whether bond funds allowed technology purchases; administration confirmed the planned purchases are allowable under the bond budget. The superintendent also explained that the Wayne County enhancement millage (on the Nov. 5 ballot) helps fund district projects; the current millage runs through 2027.
The board moved and seconded the purchase motion and approved it by roll call. The chair recorded the motion as carried.
