Burlington School Board approves two principal appointments effective Dec. 11

The Burlington School Board unanimously approved two superintendent-recommended principal appointments on Dec. 10.
Superintendent Flanagan recommended Sabrina Vesteyk to lead Burlington High School after serving as interim principal. "I'm excited to recommend Sabrina Vesteyk for BHS principal," Flanagan said. Commissioner Ivancic/Vancic moved to accept the recommendation and Commissioner Sowers seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also approved John Oliver as principal of Edmonds Middle School, following Flanagan's recommendation. Commissioner Capriello moved to accept the recommendation; Commissioner Golden seconded the motion, which passed without opposition.
Student representatives who participated in the hiring advisory group offered support for the selections. Student representative Annie Hart said she and her peers were pleased with the choices and noted student involvement in the advisory process. Board members thanked staff and community members who participated in the interviews and hiring process.
Both appointments take effect Dec. 11, 2024, according to motions accepted on the record. The board's vote was recorded by voice as unanimous for both hires.
