School committee raises substitute nurse pay to $200 a day to improve recruitment

Superintendent Dr. Brand said the administration tracks compensation across comparable districts and has seen the district fall behind, making it harder to find substitute nurses when staff are absent or accompany students on trips. "We came to realize that we were falling behind some of our counterpart districts," he said, explaining the rationale for the increase.
Mr. Golden moved the motion to set the substitute nurse rate at $200 per day; Mr. Turner seconded. The chair called for a voice vote and recorded it as unanimous.
The increase takes effect immediately as the committee's formal action at the Dec. 18 meeting. No amendment or conditions were attached in the motion record.
Committee members thanked administrators for tracking compensation and said the change was a necessary operational adjustment to maintain student health coverage.
