School committee approves three town-warrant articles totaling $719,726 for technology and redistricting

Stoughton — On Dec. 19 the Stoughton School Committee voted to forward three warrant articles to the spring town meeting totaling $719,726 for district technology upgrades and a consultant for redistricting.
Lindsay moved to approve the first article, a $168,338 allocation to replace the district's firewall; Armando seconded. The committee conducted a roll-call vote and recorded five affirmative votes (Armando, Lindsay, the chair, Chris Shannon and Karen), carrying the article to town.
The committee then approved a second technology article to purchase wireless access points for $461,388. That motion was also moved by Lindsay, seconded by Armando, and passed by roll call 5–0.
Finally, the committee approved an article to hire a redistricting consultant for $90,000; Lindsay moved and Chris Shannon seconded that motion, which passed on a 5–0 roll-call vote. Chair noted the three approved articles total $719,726 for the warrant.
Committee members said they were comfortable voting the articles separately to match how they will appear on the warrant, and acknowledged that final financing sources (leftover article monies, free cash, or other allocations) will be clarified later by the town and the finance committee.
Next steps: The approved articles will be included on the spring town meeting warrant and procurement or scope-of-work steps will proceed in the coming months if town meeting approves funding.
