School committee updates graduation policy; removes MCAS competency language

Committee members also agreed to remove the historical column referencing the classes of 2022–24, which the administration said had already been removed from the student handbook.
The committee's motion to approve the updated IKF policy (including striking the MCAS language and removing the obsolete class‑columns) passed in a recorded voice vote reported as 3–1. Supporters said the change aligns the policy text with recent state law and avoids confusing duplicated requirements in handbooks. One member argued for retaining older columns for historical comparison; the majority favored removing them while keeping archived copies of prior policy versions for records.
The revision takes effect immediately and the administration said it will update handbooks and course catalogs to reflect the current graduation requirements.
