On Dec. 16 the Wallowa County Board of Commissioners approved several agenda motions authorizing the release of economic‑development sales‑tax funds to Port and city projects previously approved by the board. Commissioners said there are two separate pools for the same projects — the Port receives two‑thirds and the county one‑third on certain projects — and that funds are released after contractors demonstrate expenditures.
The actions approved included: Port of Walla Walla Avery Business Park infrastructure (port and county portions), Wallula Gap Business Park Italia Road improvement (port and county portions), and City of College Place Lions Park renovation funding from port funds. Each motion was moved, seconded and passed unanimously.
Board members emphasized that releases follow prior approvals and are administrative confirmations that funds be disbursed when work is complete.
What happens next: Staff will release funds after receiving contractor documentation that the monies were expended as previously authorized.
