Director Chad Goodhue and Technology Services staff briefed the board: embedded controllers running Windows 7 cannot be upgraded without replacing accompanying software, and the county’s HVAC management relies on a 12‑year‑old workstation that cannot be migrated to a server because of licensing/version constraints. Goodhue said modernization would eliminate the security vulnerability, allow centralized management of campus buildings including 500 West Main, and integrate recent public‑works installations.
Goodhue said the request draws on two building funds (current expense and law & justice) and would only release funds after contractors demonstrate expenditures. The motion to approve the contract passed unanimously.
What happens next: Staff will finalize contract details and proceed with phased replacement and integration of HVAC controls; the work will include migrating controls off unsupported Windows‑7 devices and enabling centralized monitoring.
