Commissioners OK WSDA grant amendment to upgrade fairgrounds, add HVAC and repainting

County approved an amendment to a WSDA fairgrounds grant to add resurfacing, roofing, siding, repainting and a three-head mini-split for the youth building, increasing the project total to $156,719.52 and authorizing the chair to sign.
County staff told the board that a previously written WSDA grant application (originally prepared by Grant Griffin) omitted necessary engineering and electrical work; completing the project as originally scoped would have required the county to provide an additional $150,000–$200,000 in match or in-kind work. Staff proposed an amended scope that keeps the previously approved cell-barn resurfacing and adds roofing, siding, hardware, repainting of pavilion/youth building/fair office and a three-head mini-split for the youth building. The amendment the staff presented totaled $156,719.52.
A commissioner moved to accept the WSDA grant modifications and to authorize the chair to sign. The chair put the motion to a vote, and the board carried the motion. Staff said reskinning work has already been bid and approved; the amendment will allow bidding for remaining items and the county will seek additional grant cycles for future buildings.
Speaker 8 noted the amendment was necessary because initial grant paperwork left out items such as electrical and engineering. The board recorded the motion as carried; staff will proceed to bid the listed items and track required matching or in-kind contributions.
