The sheriff summarized monthly statistics, saying the department handled a range of calls and enforcement actions, including traffic enforcement and arrests. He described a notable small-plane crash in Wyndham that involved multiple agencies and resulted in one human fatality and several rescued animals; state and federal agencies are continuing the investigation.
On equipment, the sheriff and emergency-services staff described three priority items: a replacement high-pressure air compressor for fire equipment, new dispatch workstations (current units are more than 20 years old), and a Cellebrite device to allow in-house extraction of cell-phone data. "This is gonna allow us to do them in house," the sheriff said of the cell-phone tool, which he said will reduce delays caused by sending phones to outside labs.
The committee put each procurement item to a vote: it authorized advertising for bids on the air-compressor replacement and for dispatch-workstation upgrades and approved a budget amendment to purchase the Cellebrite device. The committee also accepted an Emergency Management Performance grant with a 50/50 match for planning work and related capital-project items.
