Columbia County reports significant NYSERDA grant awards; courthouse heat‑pump project under contract

County staff reported progress in securing and deploying NYSERDA funding for local projects and summarized preliminary totals from the state Clean Energy Communities (CEC) grant program.
Don told the task force the county secured a $300,000 NYSERDA grant to install heat pumps at the county courthouse and that a contract with an installer has been signed. He also said the county received a $412,500 grant under the county’s four‑star designation; both awards were described as approved but subject to final contract details with NYSERDA.
Don provided a preliminary figure that Columbia County and its municipalities have received $2,662,500 through the NYSERDA CEC program since Dec. 13, 2023, and noted the statewide CEC program had $25,000,000 allocated in that phase. Meeting participants emphasized these figures are preliminary and that additional grant announcements could change totals.
Task force members said much of the grant work depends on towns taking the initiative to apply and to do the application work; the county acknowledged outreach and technical assistance through Climate Smart Communities support staff will be available in the coming year to help municipalities access technical resources, if not direct program funding.
Officials said they will continue coordinating grant use and report on contract finalization and installation timing for the courthouse heat‑pump project once NYSERDA paperwork is complete.
