The district was awarded $323,165 through the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Climate Resilient Farming Program to support multi‑farm initiatives for soil health and nutrient management. Separately, an ash tree management grant totaling $460,947 was awarded to support forest and street tree management activities.
Officials said the funds will enable adoption of practices such as cover cropping and manure injection intended to reduce erosion and increase soil organic matter. The district also announced it will hire a third conservation district technician primarily to plan and coordinate implementation of the newly funded projects.
The district described the grants as important for long‑term agricultural and environmental sustainability in the Champlain Plain and said the projects will be coordinated at the local level with participating farmers and planning partners. No contract details or implementation schedules were read into the record during the session; the representative said hiring interviews had begun.
