Legislature approves routine hires, contracts and maintenance spending; DMV, youth programs and facility updates given

Cayuga County legislators approved a series of routine resolutions, appointed to fill a Buildings & Grounds position and authorized maintenance contracts during a December session.
Tony introduced PPW1 to fill a budgeted Buildings & Grounds position following the upcoming retirement of Ed Everhart. Tony said one qualified applicant has an interview scheduled and the legislature approved the personnel authorization.
Legislators approved a contract authorization with Bellows Construction Specialties LLC to replace two exterior steel pedestrian doors at the County Public Safety Building; Tony said money for the work is in the sheriff’s jail building maintenance budget.
The legislature also approved TBW5, a professional-services authorization (not to exceed $69,000) for design and construction documents for entrance and drop-off improvements at Bean Park and Emerson Park, and W4, a resolution authorizing staff to apply to the DEC for reimbursement of costs tied to household hazardous waste and e-waste events.
During departmental updates, Brian reported DMV year-to-date revenue near $535,000 and noted the county’s share of certain DMV fees increased from 3% to 10%. On the potential vehicle-use fee, Brian described it as a possible one-time registration fee and said he will explore the feasibility. "All revenue is in the county," Brian said when explaining how fee changes would be retained locally.
Kelly briefed legislators on youth employment expansions funded by Youth Bureau dollars and on plans for upcoming STEM events; she said the county has had higher client visits and longer telephone claim wait times for unemployment services. Tom updated on Genesee Studios infrastructure, saying core drilling to run cable is scheduled and vendor work is expected to take 8 to 12 weeks from mid-December.
All motions were carried on voice votes. Legislators bundled several routine governance resolutions — designating the county newspaper, fixing date/time for reorganization and setting tax warrant annexation — for approval.
