The Brentwood Public Works Committee held an extended discussion about Brentwood Days operations and possible policy changes for future events after staff reported lower attendance and some vendor dissatisfaction.
Parks staff said enhanced security measures were effective and that replacing fireworks with a drone show drew mostly positive comments, though some residents wanted better music synchronization. Staff reported selling 726 wristbands for the carnival, generating about $19,000; the carnival company told staff that, given the revenue this year, it might be difficult to commit to 13 rides without higher guarantees.
Committee members debated whether to continue charging for wristbands, keep the current approach (resident discounts or advance nonresident sales), or return to fully free admission. Several members emphasized logistical difficulties of offering free admission to residents only, noting issues with visiting family members and enforcement. The committee agreed staff should deploy a short resident-focused survey and consider inviting residents to a small advisory group; staff will return with survey results and a follow-up discussion with the carnival company before the end of the year.
Staff also raised operational improvements to the drone show (better audio synchronization and production quality), shade at the beer garden, and ideas for more adult programming at the event. No formal policy change was made at the meeting; staff left with directions to gather more resident feedback and meet with vendors.
