The Public Works Committee approved or forwarded a series of departmental and regulatory items on June 13.
Planning staff brought a draft ordinance to require a spot survey at the time foundations are placed for new residential construction; the committee voted to forward the draft to the Board of Aldermen to prevent future setback violations after multiple recent cases. The committee also directed staff to remove the deteriorated sidewalk in front of 9140 White Avenue after reviewing the condition and neighborhood context.
Public works recommended awarding the demolition contract for 2818 Breckenridge Industrial Court (the former Bowser House) to Tubbs & Son Construction for $82,500 (plus contingency); staff will present the contract at the next Board meeting and issue a notice to proceed after approval. The committee also reviewed and approved parks and recreation fee recommendations for FY25 (including increasing nonresident rates to better cover staffing and commodity cost increases) and supported moving forward with Concept D for the proposed permanent parking lot design at the park (one-way circulation to maximize spaces).
Other votes included committee approval to participate in the SolSmart program (no immediate fiscal impact beyond staff time) and direction for staff to pursue a draft zoning amendment to clarify temporary structures in the floodplain (no-rise certification requirement) — the latter was forwarded to P&Z for review.
