The Brentwood Board of Aldermen on Oct. 7 adopted a revised compensation schedule designed to move city employee pay to the 60th percentile of 24 comparator municipalities and also approved an ordinance establishing compensation for the city administrator.
Mayor Dimmit summarized the new compensation plan, saying the board expanded its comparator pool to 24 municipalities and adopted a philosophy targeting the 60th percentile. He said the average increase across employees was "just over 12 percent" and that raises were made retroactive to Jan. 1, 2024, producing an estimated 2024 cost "close to $1,440,000." He provided examples: top pay for patrol officers would rise to $89,186 (from $82,145), top pay for firefighters would rise to $98,327 (from $86,145), the top pay for fire captains would increase to $125,000 (from about $104,803), and sanitation drivers and mechanics would see increases in top pay as well.
Separately, the Board considered Bill 6530 to set compensation for performing the duties of city administrator. The ordinance sets that salary at $190,463 and passed on a 7–0 roll-call vote. Members noted the change will be accounted for through a subsequent budget amendment.
Both measures were perfected and adopted during the meeting: Bill 6529 (repealing ordinance 5153 and establishing a revised compensation schedule) becomes Ordinance 5157; Bill 6530 becomes Ordinance 5158. Votes on both measures were recorded as 7 in favor, 0 opposed.
