At its Oct. 17 meeting the City of Brentwood Architectural Review Board approved a porch replacement and restoration at 2330 Hilton Avenue after the architect described plans to repair deteriorated concrete and restore original wood trim.
"This started out as a simple storm door replacement," said Helen Kesser DeFate, who identified herself as the project's architect and as the homeowner's mother. She told the board the concrete porch and steps are deteriorated and will be removed and replaced, and that the project will restore original wood fluting and trim on the curved front elevation to keep the appearance consistent with the house's historic features.
Board members reviewed photographs and noted that colors and materials appeared straightforward; one member asked whether the existing VersaLock landscape wall and shrubs would be reinstalled after excavation for new footings, and DeFate confirmed they would. After discussion the board moved to approve the submission, with a board member praising the clean, simple approach.
The board did not place additional conditions on the approval during the meeting.
