The Brentwood Board of Aldermen voted unanimously Oct. 21 to approve Resolution No. 1527 authorizing the city to execute a settlement agreement with the county and remit $1,400,000.
City staff described a historical overpayment issue: they said the city identified being overpaid by roughly $7,000,000 and voluntarily remitted $5,462,919.31 at an earlier date. The parties negotiated a settlement to resolve the remaining balance; the settlement agreement includes a release so the county will not seek additional funds afterward. The chair said the settlement agreement "operates as a release so that the county agrees that they will not come back to us and ask for any more, which is very important."
A motion to approve Resolution No. 1527 was made and seconded, and roll call votes were recorded with each alderman voting yes. "Motion carries by a vote of 7 to 0," the chair said. The resolution authorizes execution of the settlement under the terms discussed; the transcript did not include the settlement agreement text or additional budgetary line items.
