APC staff told the MPO Policy Board on Jan. 9 that US Bicycle Route 37 has been officially designated and that the designation runs through Tippecanoe County communities including Battle Ground, West Lafayette and Lafayette.
"US Bicycle Route 37 basically from Indianapolis to Chicago is official," said Doug, APC staff, who noted that AASHTO approved the route at its fall meeting and that Adventure Cycling issued a press release on Dec. 13. He said APC hopes to post official signage along the route in the future.
Doug also described a short three‑question public outreach survey APC ran beginning Dec. 18 asking (1) primary mode of transportation, (2) how respondents would allocate tax money among project types, and (3) preferred information sources. Survey results showed automobiles as the primary mode and that reconstruction of roads in poor condition was the top funding preference; social media was the leading information source. Staff said they will prepare a short report of the responses (especially results for questions 2 and 3), post it on the APC webpage, and continue the TIP public adoption steps including a public hearing and committee reviews.
What’s next: APC will include survey results in the TIP outreach materials and proceed with the draft TIP, public hearing, and subsequent committee and board consideration.
