A staff speaker described the MOU as reflecting current practice and noted it is renewable each year: "It allows the school district to do their due diligence on, if they want one of our officers or if they do not," staff said.
Council members said the arrangement keeps experienced officers in schools and urged a future review of compensation if the number of officers assigned changes. The council moved the ordinance to final passage and, after a roll-call vote, recorded seven affirmative votes and one abstention. The ordinance was listed by staff as Ordinance No. 2430.
