A recorded tour of Lee's Summit Fire Department's Station 3 aired during the Rules Committee meeting, walking viewers through the station's administrative offices, training and living spaces and apparatus bay.
The presenter described the station's living arrangements for personnel working 48-hour shifts, including an on-site kitchen, personal refrigerators and pantry space, a dedicated laundry room and 11 bedrooms designed to allow for future expansion. Staff described a gym for daily fitness, a workshop for tool maintenance and an extractor machine used to clean bunker gear as part of cancer-prevention efforts.
"Cancer prevention is very important in the fire service right now," the presenter said, explaining that the extractor removes contaminants from turnout gear. The tour also noted that Med 3, an ambulance unit, recently moved from Station 7 to Station 3 to provide closer coverage and faster emergency response on the west side of the city.
