The Lee's Summit City Council Rules Committee on Dec. 19 voted to recommend a draft ordinance to televise boards and commissions to the full City Council.
Committee members said the draft ordinance mirrors earlier discussions and asked staff to bring the ordinance forward for council consideration. "I move for the recommendation to full council, the continued discussion of televising of boards and commissions," a committee member said before the clerk called the roll and recorded aye votes.
Staff (Mr. Head) advised that an ordinance number had not yet been assigned and told members the likely council scheduling: "this item will probably not be on the council agenda until probably 21st January," he said. The Rules Committee's recommendation sends the draft ordinance to full council for review and possible adoption.
If approved by the full City Council, the ordinance would expand transparency by making meetings of local boards and commissions more broadly accessible; the committee did not specify technical details such as which boards would be included or the broadcasting platform, saying staff would provide those details as the ordinance is finalized.
