Oak Park Schools will pilot new elementary math resources ahead of 2025–26 adoption

Shana Murphy, Oak Park Schools' director of curriculum, briefed the board Dec. 9 on a proposed elementary-math resource pilot to take place this school year. The district will recruit teacher teams from its four elementary schools to pilot candidate curricula and provide structured feedback tied to district priorities, with the goal of identifying materials for adoption in 2025–26.
Murphy said the district has retained the same elementary math resource for several years and deferred updates during COVID and other adoptions. The pilot will use existing evaluation tools and rubrics, align to district goals (including personalized learning and equity strategies), and consider materials proven effective in districts with similar student demographics. She said usable products for staff and students will be a priority.
Trustees asked how the district would measure pilot outcomes; Murphy said the process will rely on established tools (vendor rubrics and district-aligned measures) and teacher feedback. She also agreed to gather demographic comparisons and implementation details requested by trustees and to return with more specific information to support a future adoption decision.
