The Saline Area Schools Board of Education directed the board president Dec. 10 to reconvene an ad hoc committee to obtain and present options for a third‑party review of the district athletic department.
The ad hoc committee (formed at the prior meeting) reported that individuals and firms who perform such reviews typically spend several days on campus, interview coaches, parents and students, survey stakeholders, and audit program areas including compliance with MHSAA rules, Title IX, fundraising/finance, and coaching standards. The committee said deliverables would be a high‑level, readable report identifying strengths, weaknesses and actionable recommendations.
The committee reported an estimated cost range of roughly $6,000–$10,000 plus expenses, depending on whether the district hires an out‑of‑state independent firm or an MHSA‑recommended team of retired athletic directors. Trustees asked the committee to present concrete contract options, clear scopes of work and precise pricing before the board makes a selection.
Trustee Jenny Miller moved to empower the board president to reconvene or reappoint the ad hoc committee and present specific potential contracts for board consideration; the motion passed by voice vote. Board President said the ad hoc committee will return in January with vendor comparisons and sample scopes for the board to review.
