Superintendent Curtis updated the Pittsfield School Committee on Dec. 18 about the middle‑school restructuring committee’s work, which includes three focus groups researching grade spans, educational programming, and outreach.
Curtis said the committee plans a research meeting on Jan. 6 and a refinement/share‑out meeting on Feb. 3 with the aim of forming a recommendation for the full school committee on Feb. 12. Outreach will include surveys for community members, parents, and students in grades 4–9, staff surveys, and in‑person and Zoom focus groups. The administration emphasized limiting open‑response survey fields to keep analysis feasible while still capturing community voice.
Curtis also said the Massachusetts School Building Authority accepted the Crosby Elementary project into its queue and delivered module 1 materials for a feasibility study regarding a new building on West Street; that feasibility work will include enrollment and grade‑span analysis and could affect the restructuring timeline if it shows different options.
The committee accepted the update and reiterated that public hearings and required policy steps would follow any formal recommendation.
