Superintendent and guidance leadership said the change is an interim step to avoid confusing students during a time of state policy transition; they noted a future working group will examine what academic distinctions and diploma expectations should look like moving forward, including MassCore pathways and vocational/internship accommodations for certain students.
Attorney Rosa moved the amendment, Attorney Maglia Cadde seconded, and the roll-call vote passed. Committee members discussed staff capacity and whether some students might need summer or alternative scheduling to meet adjusted requirements; district staff said the proposal is achievable with present budget and staffing and that guidance staff will support affected students.
