The Greater Lafourche Port Commission issued a proclamation honoring the life and public service of Larry Griffin, who died July 29, 2024. A member of the commission for more than three decades, Griffin served as a commissioner beginning in November 1992 and held roles as president, vice president and treasurer during his tenure.
A proclamation read by a commission member said, "Whereas the members of the Board of Commissioners of the Port Commission have learned with deep regret and sorrow of the death of Mister Larry Griffin on July 29, 2024," and went on to describe Griffin's long service to the business community and port-related industries. Commissioners and colleagues recalled his mentorship and humor; family members were invited forward to receive the resolution.
Commissioners described Griffin as the commission's longest-serving member and thanked him for his contributions to the port and community. The commission closed the presentation by inviting family onto the dais and offering brief remarks of remembrance.
No formal action beyond the reading and presentation of the proclamation was recorded; the reading was introduced as a resolution previously passed by the Port Commission on Oct. 17, 2024.
